Odeon Cinema

Fort Kinnaird is a shopping centre built in the 1980s on the site of New Craighall Colliery, about five miles to the east of the centre of Edinburgh.

Edinburgh's first multiplex cinema opened at Fort Kinnaird in 1988.   It was run by UCI until 2005 when was taken over by Odeon.

It  has faced competition from other Edinburgh cinemas and is now considered by its management to be no longer viable, so it will close before the end of 2007.

Also to close within the next year are  This will  allow the retail park to expand with up to 30 new stores and six new Cafés or restaurants.

Other Closures

The former Melrose tea factory close to the cinema and ten-pin bowling alley at has closed and is now due to be demolished.

Within the next the ten-pin bowling alley and two long established restaurants, Frankie & Benny's and Chiqito are also due to close.

New Shops and Restaurants

British Land, the owner of Fort Kinnaird now hopes to add up to 20 new stores and 6 new restaurants or Cafés to the retail park.
