The lights on the Christmas Tree on the Mound and the Christmas Lights in the streets in the centre of Edinburgh will be switched on at 6pm on Thursday 25 November.

This will also mark the opening of the Winter Wonderland ice rink, the Big Wheel and the German Market, all in East Princes Street Gardens

Great Scottish Santa Run

This is one of several Santa Runs being held around Britain.  The Edinburgh event will be 1.5km in West Princes Street Gardens, beside the Christmas Reindeer Garden, on 12 December.

Proceeds are for charity.  Entry is £10 (or £5 for under 12s) including Santa suits.  Participants may either walk or run.  Santas can be male or female.  Almost 3,000 Santas are needed if the world record is to be broken.

Further details and entry forms can be found on The Santa Run web site.

Update

There were in fact only about 400 participants in the Great Scottish Santa Run held in fine weather on Sunday 12 December.  It is planned that the event will return to Edinburgh in December 2005.
