"I
live in Birkenhead, opposite Liverpool on the River Mersey in England. I'm
looking for a picture of Wilkie Place, Leith, about 1928
My
father was born in Dundee Street, Edinburgh, but moved with his mother and
family to Wilkie Place, Leith. From there, as an 18 year old in
1928, he walked to London and back looking unsuccessfully for work.
Shortly after this he, walked to
Birkenhead found work, met my mother, and here we are!
He would have been a hundred
years old in a month's time. I'm putting together a some information with
photographs about him."

Wilkie Place, Leith, circa 1920-30s, I came across your similar request

I wondered if you’d had any response to your request as I’d also be
interested to see any photos that were taken of the area at that time. ***
My grandmother (Charlotte McGill) was born in Wilkie Place on December
4, 1925. It would mean so much to her if I could source such a photograph.
I've tried locating photos in The Scotsman and the Evening News (with
no success) and aim to visit the National Library and the National
Archives in the near future.
Needless to say if I’m successful in finding any photos of Wilkie Place,
I’d be only too happy to forward them to you if you’re still on the
look-out."

Sorry, no replies received yet,
but I'll let you know if I do hear of any photos. Thanks for
offering to send me photos if you come across any. I hope you will be able to find
some.
Here are two other places you could consider contacting, to
see if they have any photos of Wilkie Place in their collections, here in
Edinburgh:
- The Edinburgh Room at Edinburgh Central Library.
- RCAHMS (Royal Commission on the Ancient & Historic Monuments in
Scotland).
I'll send you an email today to let you know the email addresses to
write to for these collections.

and grandmother, Sarah Anne Harvey, lived at 14 Wilkie Place in
1926. They had children, Elizabeth, Matilda, John and James.
