This photograph by Norward Inglis was taken during the last few years' of Edinburgh's trams.  The last tram ran in Edinburgh in 1956.

I was interested to see that, as late as the 1950s, Princes Street still had a cobbled surface. 

The traffic was much lighter then, but there seems to have been a good variety of cars on the street.
