Both images above have been taken from the same colour negative.

The view is from the steps of Register House looking to the west towards Edinburgh Castle in the distance, with pedestrians at the East End of Princes Street in the late afternoon sunshine in the foreground.

The building on the left of the picture is the Balmoral Hotel, with Lothian Buses in the foreground, in their new harlequin patterned red and gold livery.
