20-30 Nicolson Street

This view looks across Nicolson Street to the buildings on the east side of the street.  The photo was taken from beside Nicolson Square gardens

I took this photo for one of the visitors to the EdinPhoto web site who told me that their gt. gt. gt. grandfather had a business at 24 Nicolson Street.

No.24 is now the door to the apartments on higher floors.  This door is situated between Palmyra Pizzas and Babelon Café in the photo above.

From left to right, the shops, restaurants and bank in this photograph are:

Babylon Café / Larry's Café

Babylon Café is the Café painted lime green in the photograph above.  On seeing this photo, Eric Gold, now living in East London, wrote:

"Babylon Café used to be called Larry’s Café.  It was owned by Larry Demarco. It was a great wee Café.  My family used to say: 'I will meet you in Larry’s at whatever time'.

Larry was a great friend of our family and came from the Southside but I can’t remember where."
