Lower Viewcraig Row

I had originally identified this photo as being of the back of Upper Viewcraig Row.

However, Janice Brodie, who  lived at 76 Lower Viewcraig Row, Dumbiedykes for the first 16 years of her life, has written to tell me:

"This is the,  in fact, the front of Lower Viewcraig Row, and the back of Prince Albert buildings.

Upper Viewcraig Row was a much shorter "row" and probably the one in the poorest condition in my time. I had a friend there called Dorothy Galloway, maybe somebody remembers her."

Janice Brodie, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia: March 13, 2007

The large photograph above was one of several dozen taken in 1959 by Adam H Malcolm in the Dumbiedykes area of Edinburgh.  These photographs were taken shortly before the houses were demolished.  Adam H Malcolm donated these photographs to the Edinburgh City Libraries in the 1960s and they can now be found in the Library's Edinburgh Room Collection.
