Old Photos

Thank you to Chris Douglas, Manager of The Orchard Bar, formerly Northern Bar, Canonmills, Edinburgh, for allowing me to reproduce this photo and other old photos of Edinburgh.  Chris recently found these photos in the basement of The Orchard Bar.

Bridge Place

Bridge Place is at the western end of Glenogle Road, beside the bridge over the Water of Leith.  Glenogle Road links Stockbridge to Canonmills.  Both Stockbridge and Canonmills lie on the Water of Leith.

-  Stockbridge Swimming Baths lie on the south side of Glenogle Road.

-  The Colonies houses lie on the north side of Glenogle Road.  Some of the colonies housing can be seen in the background of this photo.

2011 Photo

The buildings in the 2011 photo look very similar to the view of them about a hundred years earlier.

-  A dormer window has been added

-  The shops have closed.

-  The old gas lamp post has been replaced by electric lighting.

-  The trees have grown.

-  The bikes have gone and a wheelie bin has arrived.

-  The cobbled street surface has been replaced by tarmac.
