Junction of George Street and Hanover Street

George IV Statue

This view looks across to the George IV statue in the centre of the road at the junction of George Street and Hanover Street.  This view, taken from the top deck of a double-decker bus, looks to the north down Hanover Street.

The Firth of Forth and the hills of Fife can be seen in the background.

Later this year, 2008, Princes Street is due to be closed to traffic.  Buses and other traffic will be diverted along George Street, and there is currently some discussion as to whether or not it will be necessary to remove this statue and three other large statues from the centre of George Street to allow the traffic to flow more easily along George Street.
