Air Raid Shelters

This view looks to the west from Elgin Terrace through the back greens between East Thomas Street (left) and East William Street (right) towards the old railway yards beyond Brunswick Road.

The World War 2 air raid shelters and what appear to be sandbags can be seen in the back greens.

Toilet Blocks

Davie Martin, who was born in East Thomas Street, tells me that the brick extensions on the backs of the buildings are the toilet blocks.  Note that there are several blocks for East William Street, but only one for the whole of East Thomas Street!
