The View

This view looks down on the West End of Princes Street.  The two churches in the background, beyond the clock in the street are:

-  left:  St John's

-  right:  St Cuthbert's

Edinburgh Castle is on Castle Hill, beyond the churches.

Publisher

I don't know the publisher of this post card.  I have only seen the front of the card.  Looking at the back of this card might reveal who the publisher was and /or when the card is likely to have been published.

Date?

All the traffic apart, from the trams, is horse-drawn.

The style of the postcard, with space to write a message on the front beside the picture is typical of postcard at the beginning of the 20th century. (Writing a message on the same side of a postcard as the address was not permitted until 1902.)

However, Maule's Department Store did not open at the West End of Princes Street until 1904, so perhaps this photo might have been taken some time around 1905.
