Princes Street

The View

This view looks to the west along Princes Street from the East End of the street.  The buildings are, from left to right:

-  The North British Hotel (now the Balmoral Hotel) with a tram in front of the hotel.

-  The Scott Monument, also with a tram in front of it.

-  Woolworths store, with Crown Hotel above it. partly hidden by the statue to the Duke of Wellington on his horse facing up North Bridge.

-  Register House, just visible on the extreme right.

Publisher

I don't know the publisher of this post card.  I have only seen the front of the card.  Looking at the back of this card might reveal who the publisher was and /or when the card is likely to have been published.

Date?

The fashions and the open-top tram suggest to me that this photo would have been taken early in the 20th century.

Earlier  View

Here is another photo taken from about the same position, but probably early  in the 20th century, judging by the open-top tram and the styles of dress.

There is also a later style of lamp post in Princes Street, in front of Register House in this photo.
