Here is a photo that I found hanging on the wall of the former Lauriston Place fire station, now fire brigade offices and fire museum. Ian Scott, now living in Buckinghamshire, wrote: "I remember that my uncle was a fireman at Lauriston, 1922-48, and that his family lived in one of the station flats. They had this picture on their wall. My uncle retired to Orkney in 1948 and the photo went with them. So when I lived in Somerset, I wrote and asked if they had the photo and he then sent it to me. I eventually gave it to the Museum with my Uncle's blessing. So it nearly disappeared!" Ian Scott, Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire, England: April 20, 2010 |

Lauriston Place Fire Station was the major fire station situated in Lauriston Place, close to Heriots School and the former Edinburgh Royal Infirmary until a new fire station was opened at Tollcross. The Lauriston Fire Station building is still standing. The old fire station now houses a museum |
