Croan's Kippers

History

Croan & Sons had a large low kipper factory, close to Newhaven Fishmarket,  where they smoked kippers in ovens, using a fire of oak sawdust.

The factory moved in the mid-1990s, further west along the coast to West Shore Road, Granton.

In early 2008, the company moved again.

Kippers Factory

The old kipper factory seen here was immediately to the east of Newhaven fishmarket, until it moved to West Harbour Road beside Granton Western Harbour.

The kippers here have passed through a bath and are now coming along the conveyor belts towards the small team of workers who will load them onto trolleys and trays ready for smoking in the oven.
