Glenfinnan

Glenfinnan is on the 'Road to the Isles' between Fort William and Mallaig.  The ferry sails from Mallaig to the Isle of Skye.

The railway crosses the valley at Glenfinnan on an impressive concrete Viaduct, built in 1901.  It is  416 yards long with 21 arches, the tallest 100ft high.

Loch Shiel and the Glenfinnan Monument can be seen in many of the photos above.

The Monument, built in 1815, is a stone tower surmounted by a kilted highlander.  It commemorates the landing of Bonnie Prince Charlie to meet his highland supporters at Glenfinnan on 19 August 1745.
