School Class

Here is a postcard of a school class.  Neither the photographer nor the school is named on the card.  Do you know where and when this photo might have been taken?

It appears to be a school class standing and sitting outside a house -  possibly a house being used as an annexe to a school?

This photograph comes from a collection of photos taken around Craighall Road and Summerside districts, on the south side of Newhaven, in  the early 1900s so it may well be from the same area.

If you can help to identify this photo, please e-mail me

Thank you.    - Peter Stubbs:  October 18, 2006

"As a native of Edinburgh, I regularly look that this website and came across the photo you posted.  Although I can't say when the photo was taken, I can definitely say that you have a mixed bag of Trinity Academy pupils and a couple of boys from another school.

I know some of the boys are from Trinity Academy as I attended this school and recognise the school crest on some of the boys' caps and the striped ties (black and gold/yellow). Check out the Trinity Academy website."

The Trinity Academy web site that Stephen refers to has a couple of interesting old photos from the school:

-  pupils in 1900

-  staff in 1904

"I am almost sure this photograph was taken in Craighall Crescent, number 6 to be precise.

I was brought up in Craighall Crescent and recognise a couple of people in the picture.   No 6 is still there, as far as I am aware.

Yes, No 6 and the rest of the houses are still there..  The railings in front of No 6 have gone, but the railings are still in place at No4, next door.

All the street photos were taken there, just a tenement close."

"This photo of the Wood family was also taken in Craighall Crescent.  Have a look at the railings, which ran the entire length of the Crescent."
