Lochrin Garage

Thank you to Stephen McMahon who wrote:

Father

"This photograph shows a large group of women and men outside an industrial building of some kind.

My father, John McMahon, is the man in the white overalls standing in the centre of the second row from the rear. He died, aged 60, in 1972 when I was 16.

The War

"I remember, as a child, asking him about this photograph and only recall that he mentioned something about the war (WW2). He was not in the army due to a heart condition, and I know that he worked as a machinist during this period.

After the war, he worked as a delivery driver for Drummonds and then for Rankins (both fruit and vegetable suppliers in Edinburgh)."

Lochrin Garage

"Looking closely at a high-res scan I have made of the photograph, I can decipher the words "LOCHRIN GARAGE" above the sliding doors.

I have searched the Internet for clues but have only come across references to automobile repair shops in the Fountainbridge area (where Lochrin Place is).

The automobile aspect would tie in with his passion for mechanics and car repairs in general. However, these are only guesses as to who the group represents."

Questions

Stephen added:

"I would imagine the gentleman in the centre of the front row is the "boss" (suit and tie).  The lady on the left holding the cat is particularly interesting.  Was she holding the "office cat"? - no idea.

Do you know what the Lochrin Garage was used for prior to, during and immediately after WW2?"

If you can help to answer Stephen's questions, pleas e-mail me, then I'll pass on your message to him.
