Shrubhill Depot

Thank you to Mark for providing this photograph,  taken in 2007, showing the site of the engine house for driving cables for Edinburgh's cable cars.

Mark has a particular interest in exploring and photographing 'Edinburgh underground'

Shrubhill depot is in Leith Walk, about mid-way between Edinburgh and Leith.  It was been used as a depot and  building / repair shop for cable cars and trams, then for housing and repairing buses, until Lothian Region Transport sold the depot in the early 2000s.

Here is a view of the engine house in use, taken probably about a century earlier:
