Gilmerton

The line to Glencorse

Gilmerton lies about 4 miles to the south of the centre of Edinburgh.  Gilmerton station, beside Gilmerton colliery was on one of the lines leading to the south from Waverley station into Midlothian.

Stations on this line were:

-  Waverley

-  Portobello

-  Niddrie

-  Millerhill

-  Gilmerton

-  Loanhead

-  Roslin

-  Glencorse

In this view, Gilmerton, with its coal mine, looks like a remote outpost.  Now, much of the land is covered in housing.
