The Shore, Tower Place, Leith

Merchant Navy Memorial

The light sandstone column here, in front of the Malmaison Hotel at The Shore, Leith, is a newly erected memorial (November 2010) to Merchant Navy sailors and other sailors who have lost their lives in wartime and peacetime.

It is appropriate that this memorial has been installed close to the water of Leith, where Leith Inner Harbour used to be, and in front of The Malmaison Hotel, formerly The Seamen's Home, built in 1883
