Princes Street

The View

This view looks, from the pavement on the north side of Princes Street looks across the street to the Balmoral Hotel, formerly the North British Railway Hotel at the East End of the street.

The clock on the tower of the Balmoral Hotel is kept permanently three minutes fast, to give travellers from Waverley Station more chance of catching their trains.

The Newspaper Seller

For a few weeks, an evening edition of the 'Daily Record' has been for sale in the streets of Edinburgh, in competition with the 'Evening News'.

Sweets and other free items have been offered with the paper.  When this photo was taken, on January 9, 2007, the offer on the placard was

'Free Banana for Every Reader'
