He presented papers on photography to the Royal Scottish Society of Arts in Edinburgh

The inscription on the left-hand side of this gravestone reads:

WHO DIED IN INDIA

AND THE YOUNGEST SON

WHO DIED IN LONDON

18TH JUNE 1887, AGED 45
