 'Allermuir Court' and 'Caerketton Court'

2006

On Sunday, November 26, 2006, 'Allermuir Court' and 'Caerketton Court', the last two high-rise blocks of flats at Oxgangs, were demolished in a controlled explosion.  The 16-storey blocks were reduced to 18,000 tonnes of rubble in a few seconds.

There were originally three high-rise blocks at Oxgangs.  All were built in the early-1960s.  They have been crumbling and have suffered from dampness in recent years,  so the demolitions have been welcomed.

All 251 former tenants of the three blocks are to be given first refusal on new homes due to be completed in Oxgangs between 2007 and  2010.

The first of the blocks to be demolished was 'Capelaw Court' , demolished in April 2005.
