Middle Meadow Walk

New Developments

Middle Meadow Walk is a wide path for pedestrians and cyclists.  It leads to the south from Forrest Road.  First, it passes along the eastern side of the former  Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at Lauriston Place, then it passes through the middle of The Meadows.

Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (ERI) has now moved to a new site at Little France in the SW of Edinburgh. The old ERI site has been named 'Quartermile' (because it lies a quarter of a mile to the south of Edinburgh Castle).  It is being developed as housing, offices, hotels, restaurants and shops.

The first stage of this developments can be seen in this photo.  A Sainsbury Central' supermarket is in the centre of this block.  There is a restaurant on the corner at the left and a branch of 'Starbucks' on the corner at the right.

Some of the old hospital buildings that are being retained and put to new use can be seen on the left and right hand side of the photo.
