Northern Lighthouse Board Ship

'Pole Star'

Leith Western Harbour

'Pole Star' was built in 2000 by Ferguson Shipbuilders Ltd, Port Glasgow, for the Northern Lighthouse Board, and is the fourth ship owned by the Board to be given that name.

'Pole Star' is 1,174 Gross Regd. Tons, length 51.5m, beam 12.0m,  draught 3.2m.

'Pole Star' used to be based at Stromness, but Walter Lyle Hume tells me that the Northern Lighthouse Board base at Stromness has now closed so I'm not sure where the ship is normally based now, possibly Oban.

In this picture 'Pole Star' is seen at Leith Western Harbour on a fine day in March 2007.
