Olfert Fischer

The Ships

Here, Olfert Fischer (F355) and another corvette in the same class, the  'Niels Juel' class in the Royal Danish Navy,  are seen moored at Leith Western Harbour.

A corvette is a highly manoeuverable escort warship, smaller than a destroyer.

The Wikipedia web site says:

"Among the Danish public the 'Olfert Fischer' is probably the most well-known of all the ships of the Royal Danish Navy due to its participation in both the 1991 Gulf War and the 2003 Iraq War."

'Niels Juel' class

I don't know which the other ship in this photo is, but it can be narrowed down to one of two, because the Danish Navy has only three ships in the  'Niels Juel' class.  All were launched between 1978 and 1981.

The other two are:

-  Niels Juel  (F354)

-  Peter Tordenskjold (F356)

The Location

These two ships are moored beside the Royal Yacht Britannia, in front of Ocean Terminal at Leith Western Harbour.

In the background are:

-  UPPER LEFT:  The coast of Fife, on the northern side of the Firth of Forth.

-  UPPER RIGHT:  The island of Inchkeith in the Firth of Forth.
