Pharos IX

Leith Western Harbour

Here the Northern Lighthouse Board vessel, Pharos IX, is seen moored in front of The Royal Yacht Britannia, outside the shopping and entertainment centre, Ocean Terminal at Granton Western Harbour.

Pharos IX

Pharos IX is the latest in a long line of Northern Lighthouse Board vessels named Pharos.

Pharos I was a wooden sloop, 49ft x 18ft x 8ft, owned by the Board from 17999 until around 1810.

Pharos IX,  built by Ferguson Shipbuilders Ltd, Port Glasgow. was launched in 1993.   She is 80 metres x 14 metres x 4 meters, with a 200 sq metre buoy working dock and a helicopter deck.  She weighs 1986 tons and is normally based at Oban.
