Joppa Paddling Pool

Thank you to Forbes Wilson for allowing me to reproduce this photograph.  The photo shows Forbes' mother, Elizabeth Wilson, leading Forbes out of the paddling pool.

The promenade beside the Firth of Forth, leading from Joppa to Portobello can be seen in the background.

Forbes wrote:

"I believe this is the paddling pool at the start of Joppa Park, looking west towards Portobello.

Joppa Park is on the left and the chimney for Portobello power station can be seen in the background. I believe there is a circular viewing area here now with a series of steps down to the shoreline

Forbes added:

"Perhaps one of your readers can confirm the exact location of the paddling pool for me."

Thank you to Archie Foley, Joppa, Edinburgh, who wrote

"Reference the fine photograph sent by Forbes Wilson, I have a picture postcard photo that shows the location of the paddling pool, just beyond the end of Portobello Promenade at Joppa.

It became totally covered over by sand due to changes in the tide patterns.  The houses of Esplanade Terrace face the sea and back on to and hide those of Joppa Park."
