Granton Western Harbour |
The View Thank you to Allan Dodds, Nottingham, England, for providing this photo, taken around 1961. I originally thought that this photo was taken from Granton Western Breakwater, but in fact it was taken from Granton Middle Pier, looking across Granton Western Harbour towards Granton Gas Works. |

The View Thank you to Andrew Hall who wrote: "This photo was, in fact, taken from Granton Middle Pier. If you study the photo and enhance it a bit more you will see that between the gentleman and the first ice bucket there is a boat lying outside Brechin's, the ship breakers. This would put the time of the photo the early-1960s at the latest. The small tripod crane from the small boat yard in the corner of the western harbour can also be seen. The ship on the far right is one of the lighthouse ships, Pharos or Hesperus, alongside the West Pier (breakwater)." Andrew Hall, Granton, Edinburgh: March 28, 2010 |

Thank you to Walter Lyle Hume who wrote: Northern Lighthouse Tender "I've just spotted the Northern Lighthouse tender, 'The May'. It's at the south end of the West Pier. It was withdrawn from service in 1962 and laid up in Leith, pending disposal." Walter Lyle Hume, Cowes, Isle of Wight, England: March 29, 2010 |
