Bernard Hunter's Crane

This Bernard Hunter crane  was lifting boats from the Forth Corinthian Yacht Club Boatyard and lowering them into Granton Western Harbour.

The crane visits Granton each Spring and Autumn to lift the Royal Forth Yacht Club and Forth Corinthian Yacht Club boats into and out of Granton Harbour.

'Conserver'  at Granton Western Harbour

I've seen 'Conserver' carrying out various duties around the Firth of Forth, including conveying the 'Queen'  to Newhaven for the annual pageant.

The boat also carries out commercial work and can be chartered.  I travelled on it in September 2010 with members of Granton History Group who chartered it for a tour of the  islands of the Firth of Forth

'The Wee Michael'

Thank you to Denis Wight (Forth Corinthian Yacht Club) for telling me about this skiff.  The skiff is kit-built to a standard design for use in the Scottish  Coastal Rowing Project.  The design is known as a  the 'St Ayles' Skiff **.

[** Clicking on this link will take you to a page on the Wick Coastal Rowing Club web site.]

The skiff in this photo is 'The Wee Michael' after 'The Great Michael' which sailed from  Newhaven in 1512.  The rowers belong to Newhaven Coastal Rowers' Club.

There are about 30 similar skiffs that compete against  each other at events around Scotland. When not in use this skiff is kept in the FCYC Boatyard.  Here it is being rowed across Granton Eastern Harbour by members of the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association.
