New Housing

Comparing the two photos above, both taken looking across Dumbiedykes towards Edinburgh Castle from Salisbury Crags, we can see how the old housing has been replaced by new.

I believe that most of the demolition and rebuilding occurred in the late-1960s and early-1970s.

Skyline

The same landmarks can be seen in the background in both photos.  They are (left to right)  about a mile away form the camera:

-  Seeples of St Cuthbert's and St John's churches at West End.

-  Edinburgh Castle.

-  Steeple of Tolbooth St John's church (now 'The Hub') at Castlehill.

-  Tower of St Giles church.

About half a mile from the camera, between Edinburgh Castle and St Giles church is the dome of Edinburgh University Old College.
