Thank you to Lilian Young who wrote about a return visit to Edinburgh that she made in 2006.

Weaving

Edinburgh and Scottish Borders

"The kilt weaving and tartan/gift shop near the Castle esplanade was a wonderful place to see on our 2006 trip.

In the past, we had always gone to the woollen mills in the Border towns to purchase our tartan.  However, we were astounded, in 2006, to find them all closed down.

In Selkirk we went to the Visitors' Centre to ask where we could purchase tartan and were informed that we would have to go to China.

We thought the informant was being rude, but were informed that most of the tartans were now woven in China.

We were ecstatic when we found the shop on the Royal Mile and were able to get our tartan, and a great many other 'MADE IN SCOTLAND' items"
