The Family

"When I was stationed at RAF Kirknewton, this cottage was occupied for many years by  an English family, Mr. & Mrs. Steve Whittles.  Mr. Whittles was an official with British Railways.

The Whittles family were very hospitable and always made us very welcome in their home.

The Loan

"Directly west, across Baberton Loan, was a small post office/ newspaper  agency.

The cottage was torn down many years ago and I think there's  now a car park on the site.  I was sorry to see this cottage gone when I last visited.  I had many fond memories of it..

If you went down the Loan, it led you to a very scenic area on the Water's of Leith,"
