Thomson Brothers

Post Card

I mentioned on the Thomson Brothers page of the web site that Norman Thomson was one of the Thomson Brothers, and asked who the other brother was.

Thank you to Stuart Dalgleish for sending me this postcard.  It has the names of both Norman Thomson and John Thomson printed on the back of the card with an ink stamp.

Insignia

"I don’t recognise the insignia on the mans collar.  I will have to take the time to research it.  Interestingly, it appears his wife/lady has a sweetheart brooch on for the same Regiment.

I know sweetheart brooches were common, especially during WWI, but it is unusual to see a photo with both being worn.

I’ve just noticed, when looking at this photo, how similar the two look, maybe it is a brother and sister, instead.

Insignia

Perhaps somebody else will recognise the insignia that Stuart mentions above, and be able to say which regiment it comes from.  Below, we zoom-in to have a closer look at it.

"It looks like the Australian Expeditionary Force Badge"

1.  Thanks Terry:  I agree.  I've just looked up 'Australian Expeditionary Force badges' on the internet, and found this Australian Imperial Force badge which looks similar to the one on the photo.

2.   Stuart:  You will probably be able to see the badge on your photo more clearly than I can see it on the scan.  Do you think this Australian Imperial Force badge looks similar to the one on the photo?
