Post Office and Waterloo Place

View to the East  -  from the East End of Princes Street

This view looks to the East from close to the East End of Princes Street, from the position where the Woolworths Store stood for many years.

On the left is Steele's statue of the Duke of Wellington on his horse.  The top of Leith Street, leading to Leith Walk and Leith is immediately behind the statue.

The road straight ahead is Waterloo Place, leading to Calton Hill with its monuments, unfortunately obliterated on this card by smudged ink from a franking machine.

North Bridge leads out of the picture to the right.

The large building behind the cable car entering Princes Street from North Bridge is the General Post Office - or as the comment written on this card says 'The Good Old Gen'.  This building is now [2004] being converted into offices but with the facade retained.

The Postcard

This postcard was posted from Edinburgh to Glasgow on 31 May 1904.
