Marlborough Mansions

Looking onto Portobello Pier and Portobello Beach

Thank you to Richard Keltie, Glasgow, Scotland,  for sending me this postcard.  Richard has been researching his great-grandmother's connections with Portobello.

In 1901, she was working at the Marlborough Hotel, 37 Promenade Portobello.  The hotel was part of Marlborough Mansions, 29-41 Promenade.

Five years later, Richard's great-grandmother, Martha Cook (born Martha McGill), had moved further along the promenade to Nos 52-53 where she owned her own hotel, 'Cook's Balmoral Hotel & Boarding Establishment'.
