Portobello  Bathing Pool

The Pool

Portobello Bathing Pool (or Open Air Swimming Pool) opened in 1936.

The pool with its distinctive architecture was popular with visitors and could accommodate 1300 bathers and 6,000 spectators.  It had high diving boards, a wave-making machine, and heated water, the heat being provided by the adjacent Portobello Power Station.

The Pool was finally demolished in 1980.
