The Postcard

This postcard was published by Valentine.  It was posted from South Queensferry to Glasgow on July 22, 1914.

The View

This view looks to the north through the stone tower at the southern end of the Forth Rail Bridge.

The Date

The photograph may have been taken any time been taken some time before the card was published.  The number on the photo should indicate the year that the photo was taken.  In this case, the number appears to be '6705' but that would indicate 1888 - two years before the bridge was opened. so it appears that some of the number may have been obscured by the dark background.

Are there any railway enthusiasts who might be able to estimate when the photo was taken?  If you can help, please email me.

Thank you.    - Peter Stubbs:  January 5, 2007
