Date of the Postcard

Sketch

Donald Beets, who has been researching Edinburgh's floral clock and collecting postcards of the clock, tells me that this sketch is of Edinburgh's 1913 Floral Clock.

The card has no date printed on it.  It was written on July 2, 1916.

I have also seen the 1916 floral clock described as being a spiral pattern.  (I cannot remember where I read this.)  Was a similar pattern used for the 1913 and 1916 clocks, or is the sketch above perhaps of the 1916 clock?

Photos

Here are two other views of a floral clock which I originally added to the web site with the comment:

"Year not known.  The clock has no words so is presumably pre-1927.  It is rather elaborate, so is presumably not one of the earliest clocks.  Possibly 1916."

Thank you to Bob Henderson for pointing out that these photos appear to be of the same clock as in the sketch above.  (In the sketch the artist appears to have changed the colours of some of the flowers for artistic effect, but has reproduced the pattern of the clock fairly precisely.)

Thank you to John Hadden who wrote:

"There is a postcard on the eBid auction site today that appears to be the same as this one:

In that case, the seller has included an image of the back of the card and the postmark can be clearly seen as 2 August, 1913.     ;) "

John's message above adds weight to the argument that the clock on the postcard above is likely to be the 1913 Floral Clock.
