Portobello Bandstand

The View

In the early 1900s, the bandstand was beside Portobello Portobello, close to the foot of John Street.  The area was later converted to a children's paddling pool.  This, in turn, had become abandoned by the late1900s

The Postcard

This postcard was posted from Portobello on 5 Oct 1910 to

'Mr Ernest Saville, 2nd Writer, HMS Attentive, Granton'.

'HMS Attentive' was launched at Elswick in 1904.

-  Displacement 2640 tons

-  Length, beam, draught are 374ft, 38ft, 14ft.

The ship visited Granton following a re-fit in 1907 and, apparently, again in 1910.

'HMS Attentive' was sold for scrap in 1920.
