This photo was taken at about 5.30pm on a late February afternoon in Bristo Square.  There are posters for the Edinburgh University students' elections on some of the lamp posts.

The lamp post on the right is one of two lamp posts outside the door of the McEwan Hall.

Ceremonial Lamp Posts

The lamp post on the left is one of several Ceremonial lamp posts scattered around Bristo Square.  These Ceremonial lamp posts are the type that are installed outside the homes of Edinburgh's present and past Lord Provosts.

Here are a couple installed outside the home of the present Lord Provost at February 2011, George Grub:
